WHAT IS THE NEW ABSURDIST?

The New Absurdist is an online Arts and Culture Magazine, but it’s also a community of people who love interesting ideas and stories. Our goal is to use the internet to create a space for creativity, curiosity, and passion to flourish.

You can think of The New Absurdist as a free and publicly accessible online library curated by our team for quality, impact, and length. And while it’s helpful to know what we’re looking for, anyone is allowed to submit work to this library!

We look for works of all genres and styles. Fiction and non-fiction. Silly and serious. We’re happy as long as readers walk away from us having learned something new.

OUR NAME

“Absurd” is a playful word. It defies what’s normal. It loves the ridiculous and bizarre. What is life if not ridiculous and bizarre? There is a growing appreciation for the cleverly nonsensical, the significantly frivolous, and the deliberately unpredictable.

The name of our publication is based on an optimistic approach to Albert Camus’ absurdism, a mode of thinking that encourages us to “accept the absurd” and find personal meaning in an otherwise meaningless existence. 

We want our name to remind everyone that we all have unique values and experiences. We, The New Absurdists, find meaning in art, culture, the environment, and most importantly, each other.

What matters to you? Whatever it is, we want to hear about it.
